Bipartisan Effort In Protecting Special Counsel Mueller
Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Recent report indicates that the Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III is ramping up the investigation into Russia probe, starting a grand jury in Washington, D.C., intensifying the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Below is a discussion by Steve Bunnell, the former chief of the Criminal Division at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington:
On Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, the Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina and the Democrat Senator Chris Coons of Delaware plan to introduce a measure, Special Counsel Integrity Act (explained in the video below), that would bar President Trump from directly firing any special counsel: retroactive to Robert S. Mueller III‘s appointment in May. Support is gathering behind this bipartisan measure to protect special counsel Robert Mueller from being fired by President Donald Trump.“The President would maintain the power to remove the special counsel, but we would just want to make sure that it had merit and have that back-end judicial process.” Tillis said on Thursday morning on CNN’s “Newsroom.” “And if there is a termination, we just want to make sure, through judicial renew, that it was warranted,” Tillis added.
Even if this bipartisan proposal passes through the Congress, Trump may decide to veto this legislation. If this will occur, the Republican lawmaker warned that, “it means that we’d have work to do potentially override a veto,”
Much remains to be seen. But it is clear that there is now a bipartisan effort in collaborating to protect the separation of powers and checks and balances.
