How Much Does Fact Matter As We Evolve? Is Internet Creating Splinternet?
Dear Friends & Neighbors,
Does fact or truth based facts matter? How much does it really matter? This is something I struggle with every day since the inception of Windermere Sun and various other online publications I’ve begun. By presenting what I consider is truthful facts associated with healthy, happy, and sustainable living, would it help to increase our public to arrive at the same conclusion? Is the availability of internet helping us to arrive at a better educated, more tolerant, and better informed public with more harmonious consensus….or is it actually developing echo chambers, leading to cyber vulcanization or some call it the splinternet, with different groups holding onto their original believes without the possible consideration of any other groups’ point of view.
Perfect example is this debate on Climate Change from 2012. Do you think either side is able to accept any part of the opposing side in this debate below?
Here is an explanation of why people don’t believe in climate science, below:
Instead of only helping our readers and viewers to become better informed, perhaps I should also ask these questions:
- How can we have more long term views?
- How can we become more rational and more empathetic ?
- How can we avoid splinternet?
- How can we better communicate the facts to others?
- How can we evolve our primitive brain to become better equipped to respond to the rate of change we are and will be facing?
Finally, how can we evolve to the point so that our belief system may be sufficiently flexible to allow us to swap out that paper of belief system when presented with truths/facts of a different time, as discussed below:
Think of the different expectations of human family traditions: spending time with family during holidays may take on a different meaning if/when we become interplanetary species….how often will one be able to visit one’s parents if they are hundreds of light years away?
